Windows Power Configuration Guide

Windows XP

One of the ways to extend your laptop battery's run time is to manually configure your laptop's power scheme. A power scheme is a collecetion of parameters which control the power usage of different devices in your laptop. For example, depending on your hardware, you can turn off your monitor automatically after a pre-configured amount of time. That, combined with a few other parameters, can help you save a considerable amount of battery life and run time.

Configuring your own power scheme is simple and can be performed easly by following these instructions:

  1. Click the right click button on your desktop, choose properties.
  2. Choose the "screen saver" tab and then click on the "power" button at the buttom of the page.
  3. Choose "custom" under the "power schemes" drop down.
  4. Now, change each parameter according to your needs.
  5. Finally, click on "save as", pick a name for your power scheme and click on "ok".
